Flotex Carpet Care
Flotex and Walkatex are being used by more and more institutions, and in new buildings throughout the world. This product, though looking like carpet, is in fact a waterproof and impervious "hairy vinyl" with thousands of fibres per square centimeter, electrostatically bonded with a vinyl backing.
Christchurch Cleaning Supplies Ltd are Canterbury and West Coast Sales agents for Windsor Carpet Care products - recommended by Karndean International, suppliers of Flotex, for maintenance of this flooring.
Due to the fact Flotex is more like vinyl than carpet, traditional methods of carpet cleaning will not work. The Flotex will just become darker and dirtier as the years go by.
Flotex, unlike woven carpet, has no airflow through the pile from the underlay, so a conventional vacuum will not produce the desired results. For everyday cleaning it should only be vacuumed by a brush driven machine, either in the form of an upright such as a Windsor Sensor, or a conventional vacuum fitted with a power head. The brush agitates the nylon pile, releasing the soil particles which enables the air flow to capture them.

Microfibre Technology
What is microfibre cloth?
Microfibre is a unique fabric manufactured from polyester and polyamide, usually in the ratio of 80-20%. The minute fibres (up to 100 times smaller diameter than a hair) have a centre of polyamide with a polyester surround, which combines to produce an extremely effective cleaning and polishing cloth.
The fibres are made in such a way that they are sharp edged and this factor means the cloths are able to clean into surfaces with pores and scratches. Microfibre is also effective at attracting grease and oil, and can be used virtually anywhere for dry (dusting) or wet (cleaning) applications.
Microfibre is highly absorbent due to its unique construction and always leaves a clean, streak free finish. It is probably the world’s most versatile cleaning cloth -able to clean any surface in the home, school or workplace, and will clean hard and soft surfaces, vehicles or sporting equipment.
Sales of this type of product have increased dramatically over recent years. The original interest centred on the different types of microfibre cloths. This has now been extended to floorcare mops and a variety of sponges.
The cloths can be used either with water alone or with a variety of chemicals, depending on your preference. They are excellent for the removal of marks off such things as glass, tabletops, or such surfaces as stainless steel. This material has been used for several years for cleaning optical glasses because of the startling clarity given through the lens.
More recently we have been exposed to several varieties of microfibre sponges in different shapes and sizes. The unique feature of these sponges is the ability they have for removing stubborn marks off surfaces. Such things as felt pen marks may be removed off painted and plastic surfaces. The surface must be reasonably smooth or the sponge will break up. They are a remarkably aggressive product for something that just feels like foam rubber. Once you have used one, the chances are you will want to add the product to your regular cleaning kit.
Microfibre flat mops are making great inroads into the standard wet mopping equipment sold today. They are easy to rinse out and like the cloths, hold an enormous amount of dirt before they need to be rinsed out. They certainly seem to take cleaning ability a stage further than the standard cotton or sponge mop. Dry mop heads are also available for use on the same frame and they prove a very effective form of sweeping up dust and dirt off the floor.

Is it safe?
Yes! It is completely safe for use on food contact surfaces. There are no irritating odours. Both holders come with long handles that help keep hands away from the heat of the hot griddle. Best of all....it DOES NOT contain any caustic soda. The Scotch-Brite Quick Clean Liquid does not require a water rinse after use like many griddle cleaners on the market because all of its ingredients are recognised by the FDA for direct addition to food. Also, the liquid is readily biodegradable and won't harm aquatic environments.
Is it cost effective?
Yes! Pre-measured portions means you can control the usage. Also by cleaning faster, you will improve employee productivity.
How does it work?
1. Squirt - with the griddle at 160-185C, spread the Scotch-Brite Quick Clean Liquid around the surface to loosen and lift carbonized grease and food soil (There is less splattering, with no irritating fumes or strong chemical odours).
2. Scour - after spreading the liquid, scour the surface with the Scotch-Brite Griddle Polishing Pad attached to the Scotch-Brite Pad Holder (The pad leaves no residue like grill bricks and will polish the griddle surface).
3. Squeegee - move the liquid into the grease trap using the Scotch-Brite Squeegee, designed with a flexible, heat-resistant rubber blade. That's it. 1, 2, 3 and you’re done!
